Costco warehouse now accepts only Visa Cards, The Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi, PIN-based debit cards, cash, personal checks, business checks from current Costco business members, travelers checks, EBT cards, or mobile payment.
As a Costco member, you may recall when Costco transitioned their accepted payment method. Prior to June 20th, 2016, you may remember that Costco only accepted American Express. After this date, Costco transitioned to only accepting Visa cards. This change was done for business reasons.
The transition to Visa benefitted the Costco members. The old American Express Costco card offered customers 3% cash back at gas stations, for up to $4000 per year in purchases and 2% cash back for payment at restaurants and eligible travel purchases in the United States. The transition to the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by City upgraded the reward package.
Now Costco members who are approved for the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi can enjoy the following rewards:
4% on eligible gas, including gas at Costco for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter
3% on restaurants and eligible travel purchase worldwide
2% on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com
1% on all other purchases
There is no annual fee for the Costco Anywhere Visa Card. It can be shown at the door on the way into Costco as a means of check in rather than showing your membership card.
Most importantly, Costco only accepts Visa cards, and as a result, many customers have turned to Citi’s Costco Anywhere Visa card.
